It was Inui who found the first grey hair of Yanagi.

They were having their after-tea laid back as usual. Yanagi hunkered on the old cotton cushion, leaning his back on the edge of their sofa. Inui laid on that sofa, rested his legs on the one of the side-handle, casually browsed through his notebooks while twining Yanagi's hair with his thumb and index finger.

It was then when Inui discovered that very first grey hair.

"Guess what I have found, Renji?" Inui entwisted that wisp of hair containing the grey one amount his fingers.

"The probability that you've already know my answer before you asked this question is 100%, Doctor." Yanagi replied placidly, leaf though the Haiku set of Natsume Soseki which he has already read for probably a thousand times so far.

Or two thousand and fifteen times, maybe. Data is missing here. Inui grumbling in his mind. It's not like he is against his partner's passion towards classic literature, but Inui does believe that part of the reason why Yanagi has became so sentimental is because of these literary readings. And, Inui could not help himself to think about the possibility that, it is all these over-sensitive proses and verses which drove the little Yanagi to make the decision of moving away abruptly without saying a word to him. At that time, he thought he had lost Renji, forever.

Inui kept silent, quietly playing Yanagi's hair. Yanagi ignored his movements, flipped the page of his Soseki, and continued his words with a loose tone.

"By the way, have you known about your schedule for next Saturday? Genichirou and Seiichi invited us to have a tea with them; I believe they finally made their decision of purchasing that townhouse at Shiodome. You remember the photos that Seiichi sent to the group chat from their inspection? There is 94.6% possibility that he had already made his mind back then. I would finish the legal aid paper works by Friday so we could spend a bit more time with Seiichi. You don't have any laboratory reservation on that day, do you? At least for that afternoon...So, Sadaharu, are you gonna remove that grey hair from my head or not?"

Yanagi noticed Inui's destruction just a second before Inui came back to listen. Yanagi felt his partner's finger hesitated amount his hair, he frowened.

“Sadaharu?”

“Yep. Here." Inui responded with a blank tone. He quickly figured out what Yanagi was asking, but Yanagi has closed the Soseki paperback and looked up at him.

"I have not yet booked any lab for next Saturday, no." Inui replied, tried not to stare straightly on Yanagi's face. A moment of uncomfortable silence. Yanagi lifted his left hand and lean it on Inui's cheek.

"You're still thinking about it, Sadaharu." Yanagi muttered with a soft expression. His eyelashes quivering in a subtle way that most of the people could never capture. However, this is exactly what Inui is good at; he nearly dedicated his entire life to catch every single hint and sign posted by his oldest friend.

To Inui, Yanagi is similar to physics. It might sounds weird to an ordinary people, but Inui found that both his career and his lover from childhood have the same beauty---which is unique, and almost infinite, alongside with their own rhythms and laws. They both holds some sort of supreme truth, applying some incontrovertible authority over him. Such a---to some extent---terrifying grace is what attracts Inui to follow step by step after them; but there is also a difference, of course: it is only Yanagi who he wants to hold, who he wants to warm up with his heartbeat and blood and never let go.

Inui tilted his head so that his cheek is completely appressed to Yanagi's plam.

"From time to time," Inui muttered, "I wonder why you left me back then."

Yanagi chuckled, gently stroked the skin on Inui's malar.

"You did not used the word 'abandoned' this time; what a impressive progress, Doctor. I'm appalled."

"It's nothing funny, Renji." Inui slightly turned his head round; his lips grazed through Yanagi's palm. He felt the trembles from his lover. Yanagi is a bad flirt; he was even a bad liar. Just like 14 years 1 months and 20 days ago, Yanagi turned back and waving goodbye to him, saying "see you latter, Sadaharu" with the most tender smile he had ever seem.

And then, this "latter" become really late; it had delayed for 4 years 2 months and 15 days until they saw each other again, standing on the different side of the tennis courts, fighting for their own team----as enemies.

He remembers so vividly, so as his Renji.

Yanagi opened his eyes, slightly. His left hand fingers groped for the leg of Inui's glasses, took it directly off, and looked up into Inui's eyes. Inui lowered his forehead, and staring back at Yanagi. The hazel met the emerald, and rippled with a wave of glimmer.

"Yes, it was never a joke, Sadaharu."

Yanagi muttered by the side of Inui's lips, and kissed his closest friend from childhood.

"So, are you gonna remove that grey hair from my head or not?"

"Never."
